Covered bridge.800 0649, with story

Description

On assignment from the family, I visited Versailles State Park in Indiana, to photograph the covered bridge.

At one time their family owned the land and built the bridge, in 1885, before the state purchased their land for the park.  It was restored recently, in 2005, and the bridge is incredible well built, covering a span of 170 feet, even allowing for viewing windows on either side, halfway across the stream.

What you are seeing is an impossible image to photograph.  The inside of the bridge would normally appear very dark with no details available.  When I took the image, I made two instantaneously exposures to get light for the inside as well as the outside.  Then to further help, I lightened up the inside more in photoshop, making it possible to see the construction and the design of the timber placements.

I bit more cleaning up outside, with some saturation to appear to have fresh paint, and the family was very pleased and ordered two more finished prints.

Feel free to download, it is fine with the family, just give me photo credit.

The "Winding road" photo of September 26, 2015, was taken from the side of the bridge looking up the road going away.

You're almost in "My neck of the woods!"  And, I agree!  Impossible to photograph!  Love this old bridge, but, have tried time and again to no avail.  I'd say you did her justice, though, my friend.  Looks marvelous!

Today is the first time I've stumbled across your work, and have become an instant fan.  I'm also an avid cyclist, although, I've been "side lined" for a few years due to health reasons.  Hoping to get back to it soon, though.  I agree with everything that you said about it in your journal, and absolutely love the photography that you've been able to produce from your cycling adventures.  I used to do the same thing!  Nothing better!

The stories that you take the time to add with your images helps to give each one a more personal feel and really helps "make the moment more real," so to speak.  I really like that.  More than just slapping a photo on a page and being done with it!  Shows some real effort and caring about your work.  Great job!
