The woman who was the subject "Gaze of a woman", took this photo of myself, between the move from the start location to the next, where her photo was taken.
This is an example of my journal of "Hand the camera over".
In those days, 1967, one would have to focus the lens, determine exposure aperture and shutter speed, frame and then shoot. Knowing my subjects were not as precise as I would be, I would first pre-focus the camera, cock the shutter, set the exposure and then hand the camera over. Most likely, as today, your face would be in the center of the frame. With today's autofocus cameras, I would recommend going to manual focus, as the sensor has no idea where the subject, you, would be and often the background would be in focus, instead of you. As you can see, I was more distant than desired, but this was to help get most of me in the image, which as you can see, doesn't always work. The white board I was carrying was a reflector board to soften the shadows so common in outdoor portraits.
