Doing my errands in town I happened on this dance of life. This is part of a series of a red tail hawk, trying to catch the squirrel. In this dance the hawk moves and at the same time the squirrel hides out of sight. All this was playing out in the town of Nashville, Indiana. After about 10 minutes the hawk gave up and flew away leaving the squirrel alive and very lucky.

This was a tricky photograph to take. I had to keep my distance to keep the characters from reacting and taking flight, as this could have been catastrophic for the squirrel. Staying about 50 feet away, I had much more image than I needed even at my longest focal length. To remove all the unimportant and distracting elements in the picture I then had to crop quite a lot.

The first rule is always have a camera with you. Life doesn't allow you a redo. The second rule is stop to take the picture and then try to improve it. This photo told the story best.
