Me.img672, with story by harrietsfriend Me.img672, with story by harrietsfriend
It was 1973, preparing for my trip across America in my 1958 Volkswagen micro van.  While I didn't work at a service center, I would gather advice and experience on these visits.  Often doning someone's shop jacket I would work on the van.  How this picture was taken, I do not remember, but this is a photo of me cleaning the split windshield.  The baby shoes hanging on the mirror were not mine, but could have been, had my mother saved them.  I would have been about 23 at the time.

Most likely taken with my Leica M2 with 50mm F2.0 Summicron on Ilford FP4 film.

Feel free to download, just give me photo credit.

Cool shot, nice story!  I had one of these VWs vans with the split windows, but it was a much older model.
Today I could bite myself in my butt (as we say here) that I gave it away in the 90ies.

I went on active duty in the Army that year, January 23 as I remember, as a freshly-minted 2Lt.  There's more than one way to start at the bottom of the ladder.
