This is something not right about this image.
His eyes are intense, full of emotion of the moment. I'm not sure why I took it, just had to, and as always, my subject knew I was taking it.
This was the second of two images I took of him with my Hasselblad 500C using an 80mm F2.8 Zeiss Planar on Kodak Tri-X panchromatic film, shot in the mid 1970s. This is only about one fourth of the negative, as much of the surroundings only worked against the emotion his eye's held. Outside the frame shown are windows covered in wire grating, as this was a poor neighborhood.
The man sitting on the stoop of the building, in the photo is violating some laws of optics, which I cannot explain.
With all these facts, the distance, the relatively short focal length, the focus should be equally sharp throughout the image, but the coke bottle to his left is unsharp, as well as his shoes, while his eyes are crisp as well as the writing scraped into the steps.
