Description

Where would you take a rest break at the gas service station?  By the entrance, with a paper for company and a chair made from what you have handy.

This gas station/repair garage was in the inner city of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.  Back then, in the 1970s, the price of gas was 60 cents a gallon, and that was in the local neighborhood stations, well before super centers offered fuel discounts and quick food to snack on.  The only entertainment carried inside was a borrowed newspaper or an old magazine left in the waiting office.  Work was done while you waited to pay with check or cash.

Taken with my Hasselblad 500C with 80mm F2.8 Zeiss Planar, on Kodak 120 Tri-X panchromatic black and white film.

Feel free to download, just give me photo credit.

For those who know my style, yes, he was aware of my camera, but the whole feel of the image included the building as well as the workman.  These small businesses still exist as speciality shops today in most every town.
