Description

I didn't set out to take this image.

The winds were so extreme at this spot in Oregon, USA, that I went from the other side of the scenic view to this side just to not face the other.  Imagine being buffeted with such volumes of air, you could not hold a camera up with monopoly assist to view and take an image.  I estimated the winds to be about 80 mph on the windward side of the shelter.  I felt like the newsman telling his audience to not go out, stay inside, while he and his crew ignored their own words (under orders from the newsroom).  Once we left the area the calm returned with only light breezes.  Evidently the land channeled the wind as it swept through the valley.

I was visiting my family on the West Coast, having just landed in Portland, and on our scenic drive to Eugene.  Since the image was already compromised, I took this in infrared.  Playing around in post processing I gave the foliage a late fall look, while I let the lake go deep dead black.

Feel free to download, just give me photo credit.

I had posted a completion of a R72 group's stock image, for a competition, within the group.  My windswept interpretation reminded me of this gale force image.  Not liking to post un-original images, I went back to find this one, whose time had finally come.
