The square format offers a different style of seeing.  The rectangular with various dimensions has advantages.  The simplicity of the square liberates.  It is a solution that works well but it needs to be tried to understand.

In this image, the colors held in a horizontal plane.  The tree canopy balanced the lower trunks extending the whole.  The narrow middle now includes the forest, while before it was only a detail to isolate.

Taken with my Hasselblad 500C with a Zeiss 80mm F2.8 Planar on Kodak 400 color negative film, fall of 2016.
